Start with your measurements.

Consistent amounts of coffee and water give you a reference for next time. Start small and try using the same cup.

Ground coffee 10–12 g
Water to pour Approx. 160 mL
Water temperature 92–96 ℃

These single-cup guidelines are from UCC. The 160 mL refers to water poured, not the final drink volume. Adjust for your equipment and beans, and follow any specific product or equipment instructions first.

Brew in four steps.

  1. Prepare your equipment

Use paper that fits your dripper's shape and size. Warm the equipment and cup, discard the warming water, add the coffee and gently level the bed.

  2. Wet all the grounds

Wet the grounds evenly with a little hot water and wait about 20 seconds. This bloom releases gas and helps the water contact the coffee evenly.

  3. Pour in stages

Pour slowly in small circles near the centre, in several stages. Avoid pouring directly onto the paper and continue to your chosen water amount.

  4. Pour a cup and pause

Remove the dripper once brewing is complete and pour into your cup. Note the amount of coffee and your impressions to compare with the next brew.
