Four things to watch for freshness.
Reseal the bag after opening and store in an airtight, light-blocking container. Keep it away from the stove and direct sunlight, and replace the lid promptly after taking what you need.
Store each type thoughtfully.
- Beans & grounds
- Aromas change after opening, so aim to use the coffee promptly. Ground coffee is easier to manage when you buy an amount suited to how quickly you drink it.
- Individually wrapped drip bags
- Check the storage instructions and best-before date on the outer packaging. Brew each bag soon after opening its individual wrapper.
- Instant coffee
- Close the lid tightly and store at room temperature away from heat and humidity. Avoid moving it in and out of the refrigerator, as temperature changes can cause condensation inside.
For longer storage, portion it out.
If you freeze beans or grounds that you cannot use soon, seal them in single-use portions. Avoid condensation and repeated freezing and thawing.
Opening a cold bag exposes the coffee to moisture. Let it return to room temperature while sealed; do not rush thawing with a microwave or hot-water bath.
